Process vs Results

As a creative beings we try to meet goals so put results at the center of our focus. Indeed, no results means no success so obviously your productivity may be measured in terms of “what” or “how much/many”. However, results differ. Outstanding results got by chance easily become your problem next time you can’t repeat your success. Perhaps, Eastern word understands that and focus on the notion of “process”. Kaizen concept and Japanese companies like Toyota quickly come into mind. Interesting enough but the story of Toyota’s success began from an American statistician, Edwards Deming, who taught that quality should be prioritized at every stage of production and a process that worsen quality should be fixed ASAP.

Frankly speaking, it’s quite hard to change mindset and accept Eastern attitude. However, next time you evaluate your results you may ask both for “what” and “how”. That will be the first step to understand if you get your results effectively or just achieve goals by chance. To sum up results should become side effects from great processes that improve your life.

The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.
